What is a Solana token?

A Solana token is a digital asset on the Solana blockchain. Think of it like creating your own cryptocurrency. Your token gets a unique address on the blockchain, and you control the initial supply. People use tokens for meme coins, community rewards, utility access, governance voting, and more.

How much does it cost?

Creating a token costs 0.5 SOL (a few dollars at current prices). You'll also need a tiny bit extra for the transaction fee (called 'gas'). In total, have about 0.7 SOL in your wallet to be safe. If you want to revoke mint or freeze authority later, that's 0.1 SOL each.

What wallet should I use?

What are 'decimals' and what should I set them to?

Decimals determine how divisible your token is. With 9 decimals (the default), someone can hold 0.000000001 of your token. For most tokens, just leave it at 9 — that's what SOL and most Solana tokens use. If you're creating a token where only whole units make sense (like tickets), set it to 0.

What is 'mint authority' and should I revoke it?

Mint authority is the power to create more tokens after the initial creation. If you keep it, you can mint more tokens later. If you revoke it (0.1 SOL), the supply is permanently fixed — nobody can ever create more. Revoking builds trust with your community because they know the supply won't increase.

What is 'freeze authority' and should I revoke it?

Freeze authority is the power to freeze someone's token account, preventing them from sending or selling their tokens. Most projects revoke freeze authority (0.1 SOL) because users don't want the risk of their tokens being frozen. Revoking it tells your community: nobody can freeze your tokens.

How do I make my token tradeable?

After creating your token, open a Liquidity Pool on Raydium — this adds SOL + your token so people can trade. Pick CPMM (simplest, ~0.19-0.22 SOL, no extra steps) or AMM V4 (~0.94 SOL, its required OpenBook market built in automatically as part of the same flow). Both pool types are available on SolTokenCreator.io — you don't need to buy a separate Market ID for either one.
